Can’t find a job? Sadly you’re not alone.

Would you believe me if I told you that I have spent the last eleven and a half years searching for a career? One could argue that I’m not good at what I do or I’ve been barking up the wrong tree but that couldn’t be any further from the truth. Quite frankly, I’m embarrassed to share my story but I feel it’s important for job seekers who are at their wit's end.

My first piece of advice is HANG ON TIGHT! There are a lot of variables at play and I feel strongly that the end result is going to be of catastrophic proportions. And as of February 2025, Donald Trump and his billionaire cronies are in the process of laying off federal employees in masses, just like Elon Musk did with Twitter.

A pick-me-up for you

Encouragement card for unemployed, gift.

As for the unemployment rate, I reached out to the Bureau of Labor Statistics to familiarize myself with the data. I have yet to drive in but they use 6 different methods that yield 6 different results, and the most common one they use is like the US Census. I mean looking for work is a full-time job in itself so who has time to dive in to get a clearer picture, not me!

Top 6 reasons why you can’t find a job

  • Nepotism

  • Weak hire weaker

  • Artificial intelligence

  • Shipping American jobs overseas

  • Modern-day racism

  • Inept recruiters

Outsourcing American jobs has finally caught up with America and Harley Davidson, John Deere, and Stellantis to name a few just recently outsourced even more. People have been wondering why wages are so low too. It’s because employers know there are so few jobs to be had, people are desperate for work and will work for shit pay.

Speaking of starvation wages, our government is doing absolutely nothing to protect the American people and it’s all by design. I call it Involuntary Complacency. It’s when a society is constructed in a way where people are so consumed with trying to survive that they don’t have the means or the time to fight back, revolution. So, things just continue to get worse like homelessness and kids freezing to death because so many people are reduced to living in their cars.

Then there’s the gimmick economy which sort of ties into weak hiring weaker depending on the industry. Take Hallmark cards for example. They rarely hire writers. Instead, they pay freelancers outright for their work so they don’t have to pay benefits, and it’s a form of job security because most of the people that work at Shitmark suck at what they do. Just go to the store and see how long it takes you to find a decent card.

Self-love and a laugh for you

Gift for unemployed, greeting card with adult beads on the cover.

The toll of not being able to find a job has been detrimental to my mental health aside, call it a blessing in disguise but I’ve had to learn to pivot from a really young age. And even then, I'm still struggling to make ends meet. So, if you’d be so kind as to like and share my greeting cards with someone you know, it would mean a great deal. In the meantime, just know I’ve been out here torching the shit out of bridges left for the greater good!

Please know it’s not you and I encourage you to take any job you can find. It’s taking people 6 months to a year plus to find work and I see TikTok video after TikTok video of people struggling to exist and it breaks my heart. No one should have to endure this kind of toxicity.

If you need a friend or someone to talk to, don’t hesitate to reach out.
